Direct cylinders will normally be found in houses with-out a heating boiler.
The water will be heated DIRECTLY. the cylinders hold a volume of heated water that is
supplied directly to your taps, the water is then replenished from a header tank
(normally in the attic), this will be constructed from galvanised steel, or plastic,
and in turn is fed from the cold water main. Should you have a hole in the pipe work -
this can usually be repaired but if there is a hole in the cylinder, you will need a
replacement. We can supply and fit replacement cylinders at very competitive prices.
In-direct Cylinders
This type of cylinder is similar to a direct version, apart from the addition of a
sealed coil with the cylinder. Passing through this coil is heated water from a central
heating boiler, which INDIRECTLY heats the water within the cylinder. Upon replacement of
this type of cylinders, it is now required by building regulation that the control systems
for you hot water are brought up to date. This may include the installation of a cylinder
thermostat, control valves etc. our dedicated heating specialists will be able to advise you on this matter.
Combination Systems
A combination cylinder can either be direct, or indirect. The difference is that the cold water feed
tank is incorporated in to the cylinder, as opposed to being mounted above it (normally in the attic).
This arrangement is popular in flats and bungalows where adequate space may not be available above the
cylinder to situate a separate cold water feed tank. Call today and book an appointment for your FREE estimate.
Plastic Water Tanks
When was the last time you had a look at your water supply? Steel cold domestic water storage tanks, often called
house tanks, are generally viewed as low maintenance. However, they don't last forever and will eventually need
replacing for a plastic tank.
