COLOR REFINISHING COMPOUNDS

The repair kit includes (3) color compounds in brown, black and white to help disguise the repair once the torn material has been adhered with Rapid Fix Fabric & Leather Adhesive. The compounds can be mixed together to more perfectly match the color of the item you are repairing. Spot testing is recommended as the compounds quickly adhere to surfaces and cannot be wiped off.

DIRECTIONS

Step 1: Prepare the repair site.
If repairing leather, first clean the damaged area with the included alcohol swab and wipe dry.

Step 2a: When repairing a rip or tear in leather or fabric, a repair patch must be placed under the ripped material. The patch allows the adhesive to more fully bond to the repair. Cut the repair patch to a size approximately 1" larger than the damaged area. Insert the fabric through the tear BETWEEN the surface of and the underside of the leather/fabric material.
Step 2b: Apply the RapidFix Fabric Adhesive to the repair patch. We recommend you use your finger to apply the adhesive as a little will go a long way. The adhesive will not harm hard/finished surfaces. Drop a quarter-sized amount of adhesive onto a hard surface, then use your finger to apply the adhesive onto both the fabric repair patch and the underside of the damaged material.

Step 3: Press the surface material down to the repair patch while drawing the damaged edges together.
Step 4: The adhesive will be fully cured within three minutes; however, we suggest you wait 30 minutes when repairing materials that will be heavily used such as a couch or car seat.
Step 5: Apply Color Refinishing Compound (if needed).
Mixing colors: Use a disposable cup or dish and the included spatula to mix colors as needed (white and brown make shades of tan; black and brown return dark brown; black and white make shades of grey). Spot test with a very small amount of color compound. Use the plastic spatula to apply a thin coat of the compound onto the damaged area. Smooth the compound and let dry thoroughly. Apply a second coat of the compound to a slightly larger area than the first and let dry thoroughly. Repeat until desired finish is achieved.
HINT: To achieve a textured look, apply the last coat of Refinishing Compound
with a damp sponge.
